Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has left for Russian Capital Moscow on a two-day visit to attend the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

According to a statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, FM Qureshi is paying a visit to Moscow on Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s invitation. Sergei Lavrov will also chair the SCO meeting.

On the sidelines of the CFM, the foreign minister will also have bilateral meetings.

After the Council of Heads of State (CHS) and the Council of Heads of Government (CHG), the SCO-CFM is the SCO’s highest forum. It deliberates on important regional and international issues. It considers documents for approval and adoption by the Council of Heads of State.

According to the details, more than 20 documents for subsequent adoption in the SCO Council of Heads of State will be considered by the Moscow SCO-CFM.

SCO’s major objectives are to promote mutual confidence and good-neighborly relations among member states; strengthening regional peace, security, and stability; and creating a framework for effective cooperation in political, cultural, trade and economy, science and technology, education, energy, transportation, tourism, environmental protection, and other fields.
