The wait for Conor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier is finally over.
McGregor and Poirier have long been teasing a rematch. The two first met back on September 27, 2014. McGregor won the bout via first-round TKO. The bout was contested at featherweight.
Fast forward to January 23, 2021, and the two will do battle once again. This time, it’ll be a lightweight championship.
The official Twitter account of the UFC made the statement.

McGregor had knowledgeable fight fans that he signed the bout agreement through his MMA media website, The Mac Life. Poirier had always stated his keenness to sign on the dotted line. UFC President Dana White claims the January 23 date wasn’t deliberate until McGregor wanted to return.
At first, McGregor pushed for a charity matchup against Poirier. The “Notorious” one wanted to go outside the UFC due to some issues he was having with the promotion.
Since their first outing, McGregor and Dustin Poirier have obtained great success. McGregor is the first fighter to hold titles in two weight classes simultaneously under the UFC banner.
As for Dustin Poirier, he became an interim UFC Lightweight Champion and has been a fan favorite due to his fighting style as well as his efforts to give to those in need.
