Pakistan has strongly condemned the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh and urged Iran to exercise restraint and avoid tensions.

Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry, while giving a weekly briefing, said that a two-day meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Niamey, Niger, in which Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir were discussed in detail.

He said that during the meeting, in a unanimous and concrete resolution, the OIC took a firm stand on Jammu and Kashmir and demanded from India to stop illegal human rights violations, siege and extrajudicial killings in occupied Kashmir.

He said that the declaration called for resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council and the OIC.

He said that it has been decided to hold the next 47th meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers in Islamabad. He said that the Council of Foreign Ministers unanimously adopted the resolution of Pakistan against Islamophobia.

He said that while expressing reservations over the desecration of Holy Quran and publication of insulting sketches of Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa in the Qur’an, which hurt the feelings of 1.8 billion Muslims of the world.

The spokesman said the resolution decided that March 15 would be observed every year as the International Day Against Islamophobia.

The Foreign Office spokesman said that Pakistan strongly rejects the Indian Foreign Ministry’s statement on the OIC resolution.

He said that Chinese Consul and Defense Minister General Wai Feng paid a three-day visit to Pakistan during which they discussed ways to further strengthen cooperation between Pakistan and China.

He said that during the visit, he also met the Prime Minister, the President and the Chiefs of Armed Forces to discuss enhancing bilateral defence cooperation, regional situation and issues of mutual interest.

The spokesman said that Pakistan strongly condemned the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizada and offered condolences to his family.

He said that Pakistan urges all parties to exercise maximum patience over the assassination of Mohsin Fakhrizada and refrain from escalating tensions in the region.

He said that Pakistan welcomes the announcement of the Inter-Afghan Dialogue Agreement, Pakistan is optimistic about the announcement of the Inter-Afghan Agreement and only fruitful negotiations can pave the way for a peaceful solution to the Afghan problem.

He said that Pakistan welcomes the agreement reached by the Afghan parties in Doha on the rules and regulations, which reflects the joint commitment of the parties to further secure the agreement.

The State Department spokesman said that Pakistan and the United States have a close and cooperative relationship and we look forward to working with the new US administration.

Referring to the issuance of sword hunting licenses, he clarified that hunting licenses in Pakistan are issued under a formal procedure.

He said that Pakistan has close ties with the United Arab Emirates and the UAE has not yet announced its official position on non-issuance of visas. The Foreign Ministry is in touch with the UAE authorities on the matter.

Abdul Hafeez Chaudhry, while expressing reservations over the issuance of tender for a new settlement in occupied Palestine by Israel, said that we strongly condemn the Israeli efforts for a new settlement in occupied Palestine, the right of Palestinians to vote is important to us.

He reiterated Pakistan’s position that Pakistan believes in a two-state solution to Palestine, a pre-1967 border and a Palestinian solution to Al-Quds as its capital.

He clarified that the meeting with the officials of Spain and Catalonia had nothing to do with the issue of separation of Spain and Catalonia from Pakistan and Pakistan’s policy towards Spain was maintained.

The Foreign Office spokesman said that the reforms in Gilgit-Baltistan were being carried out keeping in view the needs and demands of the people there and Pakistan would not take any step which would affect our position on Jammu and Kashmir.
