Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Pakistan will continue to play its role for unity, peace and stability among the Muslim Ummah.

According to details, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi briefed the ambassadors of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries regarding the 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs while welcoming the ambassadors of OIC member countries to the Foreign Ministry.

Addressing the ambassadors of OIC member countries, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers held in Niger was attended by the Foreign Ministers of many member countries and held bilateral meetings and discussions with the Foreign Ministers.

The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan, as a founding member of the OIC, considers the OIC as a very important forum for resolving the issues facing the Muslim world.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi also said that the 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers discussed many issues facing the Muslim world, including Islamophobia, Palestine, Rohingya, the situation in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Negrono Karabakh, Afghanistan and the OIC. Discussions were held on the mistreatment of Muslims as a minority in the non-member states.

The Foreign Minister said that he was grateful to all the member states individually and especially to the OIC for their support of Pakistan’s views on important issues including Kashmir and Islamophobia by the member countries at the Council of Foreign Ministers.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi also said that this was the first meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers after the unilateral and unconstitutional measures taken on August 5, 2019, in Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, so that the 57 OIC member states unanimously agreed and rejected the unilateral measures and India’s step to issue domicile to non-Kashmiris.

The Foreign Minister said that this unanimously adopted resolution strongly condemned the grave human rights violations by India in occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi also said that at the 47th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, against the growing trend of Islamophobia, Pakistan presented a resolution expressing the sentiments of 1.8 billion Muslims, which was unanimously adopted and March 15 was decided to be celebrated as the International Day Against Islamophobia.

The Foreign Minister said that Pakistan also pays tribute to the Secretary-General of the OIC, Yousef bin Ahmad Al-Othaimeen, for his excellent services in highlighting the issues facing the Muslim Ummah, including supporting the unarmed Kashmiris.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi also said that at the 47th meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, accepting our offer, it was decided that the 48th meeting of the OIC Foreign Ministers would be held in Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi further said that Pakistan has also had the honour of hosting the OIC Summit twice in 1974 and 1997.
