Justice (retd) Sheikh Azmat Saeed Appointed Chairman Of Broadsheet Inquiry Committee

Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Justice (retd) Sheikh Azmat Saeed as the head of the Broadsheet Inquiry Committee.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz, said in a tweet on the social networking site that “Justice (retd) Sheikh Azmat Saeed will be the head of the Broadsheet Inquiry Committee.”

Meanwhile, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry also tweeted in this regard and said that the remaining members of the committee will be appointed in consultation with Justice (retd) Sheikh Azmat Saeed.

It may be recalled that two days ago, the federal cabinet had constituted a five-member inquiry committee to probe the Broadsheet case and identify the beneficiaries.

After the meeting of the federal cabinet, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry and Minister for Human Rights Shirin Mazari said in a press conference that will consist of a senior officer, a senior lawyer and an officer nominated by the Prime Minister.

He said that the terms of reference (TORs) of the committee have been prepared under which it will complete its investigation within 45 days.

Shibli Faraz said that in the light of the recommendations of the committee, strict action would be taken against the culprits who looted the national treasury.

He said that the Broadsheet case was based on facts which exposed the corruption of the former rulers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the broadsheet issue should be put before the people in detail.

According to the details, a meeting of government leaders was held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister in which Shehzad Akbar gave a briefing on the broadsheet case. The Prime Minister set up a five-member committee on the broadsheet issue.

The committee includes Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Shireen Mazari, Babar Awan and Shehzad Akbar.

The Prime Minister said that the Broadsheet case should be brought before the people in detail and the facts contained in the decision of the Broadsheet case should be brought to light.

Imran Khan said that the Broadsheet Company was investigating the assets of 20 years ago, the last ten years are yet to be accounted for, those who looted the country’s wealth and transfer it to abroad cannot escape from accountability.

PM Imran also appreciated the issue of foreign funding which was raised by the Election Commission. “PTI is the only party which came into existence with the funding of the people. We are proud that our party was not sponsored by the mafia. We would not bow before them,” the Premier added.

In addition, Home Minister Sheikh Rashid briefed the meeting on the PDM meeting. Sheikh Rashid said that the protest was allowed within the ambit of the constitution and law.
