Indian Batsman Shubman Gill on Friday became the 4th youngest opener of the national side to score a maiden fifty outside Asia in Test cricket.

According to the details, during the 3rd session of Day 2 of the third test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) 21-year-old Gill achieved the millstone.

Preceding Gill in this list: Ravi Shastri (vs England, 1982), Madhav Apte (vs WI, 1952/53), Prithvi Shaw (vs NZ, 2019/20). India head coach Ravi Shastri is the youngest in the list.

After Australia posted a total of 338 in the 1st innings, with Steve Smith top-scoring with a brilliant 131, India opened with Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill.

Former Australia batsman Michael Hussey said that the youngster was very quickly becoming his favorite player to watch.

“This guy is very quickly becoming my favorite player to watch. He is a gun. Plays well on the front-foot, but even better off the back foot. And that sends a message to the bowler.”

Meanwhile, replying to Australia’s first innings target of 338, India was 96/2 at the time of stumps.
