Pakistan on Thursday recorded 53 more deaths related to the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 13,377.
According to the latest statistics of the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 2, 258 infections were reported in a single day taking the national tally of confirmed cases to 597,497.
The total count of active cases is 17,628. In the past 24 hours, as many as 1,276 patients have recovered from the virus. So far 566,492 people in the country have been recovered from the virus since outbreak.
On Wednesday, the Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood announced the closure of schools in several cities from Monday, March 15 following a significant rise in coronavirus cases.
The federal minister, while speaking to the media after a meeting at the National Command and Operations (NCOC), said educational institutes would be closed in the federal capital and other Punjab cities from Monday for two weeks.
The SAPM on Health Dr Faisal Sultan said a decision had also been taken to extend a ban on indoor activities and again enforce 50% work-from-home policy.
The implementation of the work from home policy has been left to the discretion of the provinces, but will go into effect in Islamabad immediately.
