Apple’s next phone in the lineup, most probably iPhone 13, will feature Apple Watch’s Always On mode, Bloomsberg’s content writer Mark Guram said.

Apple was expected to introduce a high refresh rate to the iPhone but had to drop because of battery life concerns. This year, the company will probably use Samsung’s LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology to enable a 120Hz refresh rate on the Pro variants.

Apple introduced ProMotion with the iPad Pro in 2017. A refresh rate is the number of frames a screen can process per second. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother the experience will be.

However, having the screen fixed at 120Hz can be wasteful as static contents don’t require higher refresh rates. this is where LTPO comes in. LTPO displays can dynamically adjust the refresh rates according to usage. this is the factor that makes them more power-efficient than Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon (LTPS) Thin-Film Transistors (TFT) screens that companies normally use.

Since LTPO can adjust the refresh rate to as low as 1Hz, rumors are that LTPO could enable iPhone 13 to have an Always-On feature.

A low refresh rate enables the display to operate at low brightness levels and this helps save power during times when you don’t need the screen to be fully active. This feature has already been incorporated in most high-end smartphones.

According to one report, the Always-On display will always show the clock and battery. It will light up only temporarily to show a notification.

Today’s report also shows similar leaks as previous. The iPhone 13 will have A15 Bionic chip, a small notch, improved video recording capabilities, and longer battery life. However, there is still no in-display fingerprint reported this year.
