Pakistan on Monday received 3 million doses of Moderna vaccine donated by the US government through the COVAX facility with UNICEF support.

UNICEF, in a series of tweet, stated that with this consignment the number of Covid vaccines received by Pakistan has reached 8 million.

This is the second consignment of Moderna donated by US to Pakistan this month, bringing the total number of doses donated by Washington through COVAX to 5.5 million since May 8.

“The doses will support Government of Pakistan’s ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive,” UNICEF stated.

It further said that COVAX has delivered a total 8 million doses of Covid vaccines to Pakistan since May 8—2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca, 100,000 doses of Pfizer and 5.5 million of Moderna vaccines.

The COVAX Facility supports global equitable access to Covid vaccines.

To date, more than 5 million people have been fully vaccinated and more than 20 million partially vaccinated against Covid in Pakistan since the country’s vaccination campaign started in February 2021.

Covid positivity rate in Pakistan increased to more than 7.5 per cent as the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is intensifying in the country.

According to NCOC, 49,947 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 3,752 were positive while 32 people died.

The total number of deaths from Covid in the country has risen to 23,048 and the total number of cases has reached 1,08,446.

In addition, 1,641 patients have recovered from coronavirus in 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 927,599 while the number of active cases is 57,799.
