ISLAMABAD: A 14-member delegation led by National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaiser left for Baku to attend the first trilateral meeting of the parliamentary leaders of the three countries, Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey, while promoting regional cooperation and connectivity.

The parliamentary delegation went to Baku on the invitation of the Mili Majlis of Azerbaijan Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.

The first trilateral meeting will start from today, July 26, 2021 to July 31, 2021; followed by a meeting of the executive committee of the three parliamentary leaders to be conducted on July 27, according to a statement.

The participants would discuss the content of “Baku Declaration”, and a venue of the second trilateral meeting during the committee meetings.

Earlier, Gafarova floated this idea to form a trilateral platform and it was endorsed by the parliamentary leaders of Pakistan and Turkey as a gesture of close and cordial relations between three Muslim countries.

Moreover, apart from participating in the first trilateral meeting, the Pakistani parliamentary delegation plans to hold meetings with Azeri and Turkish parliamentarians.

They will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

The visit of the parliamentarians is aimed at cherishing the interests of Pakistan’s policy to foster relations with the brotherly countries and promote regional connectivity.

NA Speaker Asad Qaiser will reiterate its support to Azerbaijan and will congratulate Azeri authorities on their sweeping victory in the 44-day patriotic war.

He will also highlight the issues and atrocities being faced by the innocent and poor Kashmiris in the Illegally Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir during the visit.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani delegation consisted of Sahibzada Sibghatullah, Saleh Muhammad, Saifur Rehman, Shuakat Ali, Munaza Hussain, Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Fazal Muhammad Khan, Raja Khurram Shahzad Nawaz, Dr Aisha Ghaus Pasha, Syed Mustafa Mehmood, Syed Hussain Tariq, Usama Qadri and Naz Baloch.
