President Arif Alvi on Monday asked people to ‘get serious’ as Covid positivity rate in the country spiked to 7.5 per cent following Eidul Azha holidays.
Urging people to get vaccinated at earliest, the president said that the rising number of coronavirus cases was alarming in the country.
“Get serious people of Pakistan. Cases have shot up post-Eid. I was expecting and warning about it as I saw carelessness in streets, bazaars, weddings and mosques,” he said adding that as many as 3,752 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours.
“Let’s put our act together. Follow SOPs wash hands, [wear] masks and [maintain] social distance,” Dr Alvi said in a tweet.

Stressing over the need to vaccination, the president urged people to save their friends, relatives and the nation.
“Don’t let the recent gains towards stability be sacrificed on the altar of neglect. You are a rising nation, so the important test is to rise to the occasion,” he said.

Pakistan on Monday received 3 million doses of Moderna vaccine donated by the US government through the COVAX facility with UNICEF support.
UNICEF, in a series of tweet, stated that with this consignment the number of Covid vaccines received by Pakistan has reached 8 million.
To date, more than 5 million people have been fully vaccinated and more than 20 million partially vaccinated against Covid in Pakistan since the country’s vaccination campaign started in February 2021.
COVAX has delivered a total 8 million doses of Covid vaccines to Pakistan since May 8—2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca, 100,000 doses of Pfizer and 5.5 million of Moderna vaccines.
Covid positivity rate in Pakistan increased to more than 7.5 per cent as the fourth wave of the coronavirus pandemic is intensifying in the country.
According to NCOC, 49,947 tests were conducted across the country in the last 24 hours, of which 3,752 were positive while 32 people died.
The total number of deaths from Covid in the country has risen to 23,048 and the total number of cases has reached 1,08,446.
In addition, 1,641 patients have recovered from coronavirus in 24 hours across the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 927,599 while the number of active cases is 57,799.
