Xiaomi to Setup and Manufacture Smartphones in Pakistan
Xiaomi is planning to establish its manufacturing unit in pakistan in the next 3-4 months.
The company came up with this strategy after Realme, another Chinese smartphone manufacturer, announced setting up its smartphone manufacturing plant in Lahore.
As a result, there were massive price cuts in the country, especially for for Realme C21. If Xiaomi is successful in its plans, then similar results can be expected when it comes to company’s smartphone prices.
Realme already tested its locally manufactured smartphone in Lahore, resulting in huge price cuts of Realme phones, including Realme c21.
This was revealed by Realme’s Director of Marketing in Southeast Asia, South Asia and Latin America, Sherry Dong.
Both companies aim to manufacture smartphones and other Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) products in the local markets of the South Asian country.
Affordable smartphones is the hallmark of both companies. As Pakistan is still developing with a large, young population. Productions of smartphones locally will have a positive impact on socio-economic situation.
Pakistan is the 7th largest importer of smartphones globally. Therefore, local manufacturing will also save foreign exchange on mobile phone imports.
Local manufacturing also saves the country from paying heavy import duties, which has been increased to 240% following 2021-22 budget.
As per Canalys, a global analytics firm, Xiaomi secured second position after surpassing Apple in Q2 2021.
Its shipment increased by 83% on year-on-year to hit 17% global market share. It this level of growth continues to grow at the steady pace, then in no time it will also surpass Samsung and become the world’s biggest smartphone brand before the end of this year.
Canalys also reports top smartphone vendors, Q1 2021 in Pakistan, which includes Transsion at #1, Vivo at #2, Samsung at #3, Oppo at # 4 and Xiaomi at # 5.
