AEDB signs solar agreements with educational institutions

ISLAMABAD: The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) signed agreements with five host institutions for handing over the solar data stations installed in 2014, within the premises of the host institutes, under the World Bank’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program.

Shah Jahan Mirza, chief executive officer of AEDB, executed the agreements with the host institutes.

The institutes included NUST, Islamabad, UET Lahore, UET Peshawar, Mehran University, Jamshoro and Energy Department of the Punjab government.

The underlying objective is to continue access to credible and bankable ground-based data. Through the solar measurement stations and its data, the host universities/institutes can take benefits from multiple researches.

The AEDB, in collaboration with the World Bank, under the WB’s Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP) initiated the renewable energy mapping through installation of IEC compliant solar and wind measurement stations across the country.

Under the solar mapping component in 2014, a total of nine ground-based solar data stations across Pakistan were installed. Eight solar measurement stations were installed in different universities of the country and one solar station was installed at the Quaid-e-Azam Solar Park, Bahawalpur.
