Cabinet approves summary to accelerate power supply to Gwadar

ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Committee on China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) on Thursday approved a summary moved by the Power Division, presenting proposals to accelerate the power supply to Gwadar.

It allowed the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) to change its executing agency so as to expedite the work and ensure the project should be completed by March 2023.

Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar chaired the meeting of the committee. The chairperson of the committee asked for ensuring the dedicated power supply for the Gwadar Industrial Zone.

The committee also nodded the Power Division to discuss options of importing additional power supply from Iran.

The committee reviewed the progress of various projects under the CPEC, while focusing on industrial cooperation, energy, infrastructure and Gwadar port marketing plan.

Those who attended it included Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin, Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar, Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmad, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Minister for Industries and Production Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Power and Petroleum Tabish Gauhar, SAPM on CPEC Khalid Mansoor, National Highway Authority (NHA) chairman, Planning Commission deputy chairman, Balochistan chief secretary, secretary planning, secretary power, secretary maritime affairs and officials concerned.
