LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan is likely to be given the slot of Special Assistant to Prime Minister Imran Khan, reliable sources told Bol News on Saturday.

The sources disclosed that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar had himself asked Dr Firdous to step down from her position of Special Assistant to CM which is why her resignation was also instantly accepted.

“CM Punjab was not happy with her performance as SACM and, in fact, they were not even on speaking terms for quite some time,” a senior official from CM House told Bol News.

He maintained that Dr Firdous never paid heed to notices and instructions from Buzdar and the chief minister saw no improvement in her attitude. “This is why she was somewhat confined to her office with no access to the CM or his office since the last many days,” the sources added.

The CM had many complaints against Dr Firdous, including how she utilised the advertising funds, the lack of projection of Punjab development projects, snubbing the CM’s advice, politicking and lobbying against her colleagues.

“CM Buzdar was upset because Firdous acted like a federal information minister and not as the provincial information head,” the sources said.

Another senior official, who is close to people around CM, told Bol News that Chaudhry Ahsan Saleem Baryar and his family’s involvement in souring the ties between Dr Firdous and Buzdar cannot be ruled out as he is from Dr Firdous’s constituency and had managed to win PP-38 by-elections.

Sources said that Chaudhry Ahsan, who is also the son-in-law of CM’s principal secretary Tahir Khurshid, is eyeing a National Assembly seat in the next general elections. They further said that the Ahsan’s family is trying to convince the chief minister on giving them a party ticket to contest the next general elections from Punjab.

Meanwhile, a senior official from the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed to Bol News that Dr Firdous is likely to be given the role in the centre as SAPM by the premier.   “She is most likely to be made SAPM on Social Welfare, but the final decision on her posting would be taken by PM Imran Khan himself,” the official said.

Sources added that the PM is happy with her performance and also appreciated her role in the recent PP-38 Sialkot by-election win.
