In an expected move, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Friday appointed provincial minister for prisons Fayyazul Hassan Chohan as his official spokesperson a week after Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan resignation from the post.

It is pertinent to mention that earlier Awan had replaced Chohan in November last year when he was removed as information minister from the Buzdar’s cabinet.

But he remained part of the cabinet in Punjab as colonies minister and after a few days was also given the additional portfolio of prisons.

According to the notification, a copy of which is available with Bol News, “A week after Awan’s resignation, Chohan has now been appointed as the official spokesperson for the Punjab government.

“Chief Minister has been pleased to appoint Fayazul Hassan Chohan, Minister for Prisons, Punjab, as Official Spokesperson for the Government of Punjab till further orders,” the notification states, implying that Chohan will continue to hold his ministry along with this new charge for now.

“Further necessary action may be taken accordingly,” the notification, signed by the principal secretary to the chief minister, further stated.

Speaking on the occasion, Chohan said: “I am grateful to my party leadership for showing faith in him by giving him the additional responsibility of the provincial government spokesperson. Will make an all-out effort to perform to the best of my abilities.”

“As an official spokesperson of the provincial government my utmost task will be to present to the public the achievements of the Buzdar-led provincial government in Punjab,” Chohan said.

The prisons minister also vowed to expose the conspiracies against the Buzdar government.

CM Buzdar had kept the ministry of information with himself.
