LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi said on Monday that bureaucrats who created hurdles in the implementation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MPA Nazir Chohan’s production orders and violated the sanctity of the parliament would be taken to task.

Elahi, during the PA session, appreciated the efforts of Minister for Prisons Fayyazul Hassan for his intervention and playing his part in melting the ice between Prime Minister’s aide Shahzad Akbar and MPA Chohan.

“I pay tribute to the minister for saving MPA Nazir Chohan’s life and I also thank the treasury, as well as opposition benches for taking a stand on the issue,” the speaker added.

As soon as the session started on Monday, the provincial minister informed the House that he had finally managed to bury the hatchet between Shahzad Akbar and Nazir Chohan.

Fayyaz also read the letter written by Nazir Chohan for the speaker on the floor of the House.

“I am really grateful to Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Pervez Elahi from the bottom of my heart. The stand he took on my arrest is exemplary and would go down in history,” Chohan wrote in his letter.

Chohan also said that he was admitted at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology for heart ailments because of which he failed to attend the session.

Later, during the start of questions-hour, PML-N legislator Khalil Tahir Sindhu while commenting on the point of order said, complained that how was the house supposed to debate over issues in the absence of the secretary food.

“Despite my ruling secretary food is not available during the questions-hour break,” an irked Elahi said adding that the actions were intolerable.

“We will not allow anyone to violate the sanctity of parliament and Khalil Tahir Sindhu’s point of order is valid,” Elahi said.

He added that secretary food instead of coming himself had sent additional secretary which means they aren’t taking the ruling and parliament seriously.

The session was later adjourned till 2:00pm on Tuesday due to the absence of Punjab food minister and food department secretary.
