HVDC Matiari-Lahore Transmission line being completed on fast track basis
LAHORE: The high-power testing of 660kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) Matiari-Lahore Transmission line is completed on a fast-track basis with close liaison of Pakistan Matiari Lahore Transmission Line Company (PMLTC) and the National Transmission and Dispatch Company.
The HVDC system on Monday transmitted 3,000MW on the bi-pole successfully as per the requirement of the Transmission Services Agreement.
NTDC managing director Engr Muhammad Ayub remained in the control room of the National Power Construction Corporation (NPCC) during the test and monitored HVDC parameters and also sought update about the test and issued guidelines to the commissioning working group, consultant and independent engineer to perform the test vigilantly and take necessary measures to maintain the system stability.

Whereas, the last remaining test, i.e., Trial Operation (168 hours) and Capability Demonstration Test (6 hours) (A:8) will be completed soon and the commercial operation date will be achieved on September 1, 2021.
The 660 kV HVDC Matiari Lahore Transmission project is the CPEC project built on BOOT basis, which has been envisioned to evacuate 4,000MW from the power plants in the South of the country.
The project will be owned and operated by Pak MLTC for 25 years and after that the operations will be transferred to NTDC.
HVDC is a new technology in Pakistan and is widely being used around the world in long distance transmission.
