Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s fame fell from 66 percent to 24 percent, which is a huge difference of 42pc, over the passage of one year as Covid-19’s second wave which led to record deaths in the country.

A survey, titled Mood of the Nation, conducted by an Indian publication had asked respondents, “Who is best suited to be the next prime minister of India?”

The results of the survey claimed that Modi was the top candidate, followed by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adyanath and Rahul Gandhi, the leader of India’s main opposition party.

However, Modi’s acceptance has drastically deteriorated enormously from 66 percent in August 2020 to 38 percent in Jan 2021 and finally reaching 24 percent in Aug of this year.

Defendants quoted Modi’s management of the coronavirus pandemic as the main purpose for lower rankings.

“While Modi was lauded for his handling of the first wave with a high 73pc approval rating in January 2021, the disruption experienced during the second wave has seen that figure drop to 49pc,” stated the Indian publication report.

Around 27pc of the plaintiffs said that huge congregations, comprising election meetings, we’re accountable for the second wave in India,

Whereas 26pc claimed that it was due to ignoring protections contrary to the coronavirus, another Indian publication said in its report on the survey.

The respondents also showed uncertainty in the government’s data of cases and deaths due to the coronavirus, with 71pc saying contaminations and the death toll was higher than the Indian government’s statistics.

Whereas in July, India became the third country to exceed 400,000 Covid-19 deaths.

The outpouring was attributed to the Delta variant and the government’s contentment after Modi professed conquest over the virus in January.
