Muharram security plan finalised for Karachi
KARACHI: Karachi police have finalised a security plan for Muharram on Tuesday in which 5,018 law enforcement personnel will be deployed in an attempt to maintain security across the city.
As many as 20 senior police officers and 53 DSPs would perform the duties while 832 NGOs, 4,000 head constables, 113 ladies police personnel would be stationed on routes of the processions and congregations.
According to the plan 15,971 majalis will be held across Sindh as well as 6,288 and 717 processions would be conducted in different parts of the province.
In order to maintain law and order and avoid any untoward incident, the provincial government may impose a ban on pillion riding across Sindh, including Karachi, on the 8th, 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Mobile services would be disrupted on the procession routes and adjoining areas of majalis venues at different locations in the city.
Authorities would also seal MA Jinnah Road with placement of cargo containers and other barriers as part of the security for processions and would remain unavailable for routine traffic on 9th and 10th Muharram. Roads and streets around Saddar, Regal Chowk have also been blocked for all kinds of traffic movement.
Meanwhile, Administrator Karachi and CM Advisor on Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab finalising the plan stated that “local bodies, city administration and police department will work together and all possible facilities will be provided for processions and majalis with assistance of water board, K-Electric and other bodies.”
He said that all the deputy commissioners, municipal commissioners, DIGs should take note of the issues raised to improve security. KMC has made its control room 1339 and it will work continuously till 10th Muharram.
The Sindh Solid Waste and Management Board in the press release further added that cleanliness drives have already been carried out on all the routes of processions and congregations.
The press release further added that the department should keep in contact with the administrators of all the processions while the central control room also should be active till 10th of Muharram.
