Pakistan Records 20% Fall In Daily COVID Cases Amid Fourth Wave

While the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reduced by 20 per cent due to measures taken by the provinces, especially the Sindh government, the National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) has suggested that people avoid holding meetings at home and asked to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) during mourning processions.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) has expressed deep concern over the rapidly growing number of doctors infected with the coronavirus.

According to the details, the number of COVID-19 cases, which exceeded 5,000 last week, has dropped by almost 20%.

The NCOC data shows that 86 deaths and 3,884 cases were reported in a single day and the number of active cases till August 10 was 84,427 while the level of positive cases at the national level was 7.84%.

An official from the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) said on condition of anonymity that the Sindh government had played a key role in reducing the number of cases.

“Unfortunately, the cases were doubling overnight and Karachi was the most affected city. However, the implementation of lockdown by the Sindh government has stopped the increase in the number of cases and the rate of positive cases in the province,” he said. Later, the NCOC also decided to impose sanctions, which led to a decrease in the number of cases across the country.

However, he feared that the number of cases could start rising again during Muharram due to mourning processions and gatherings.

Meanwhile, the NCOC, while issuing suggestions for Muharram, said that all processions and gatherings should be in accordance with SOPs, thermal scanning should be arranged, each participant should wear a mask and ensure social distance while participants Hand sanitisers should also be provided.

It was suggested to avoid meetings in houses and to hold meetings in halls with proper ventilation.

The PMA, the doctors’ representative body, has expressed concern over the deaths of nine doctors in the past two weeks.

“The PMA is concerned about the rapidly increasing number of cases of code 19 among doctors who are still dying after being vaccinated. Unfortunately, nine doctors have died in the last two weeks, which is alarming,” the statement said. It’s very worrying. ”

“One of the nine doctors was from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and eight from Sindh, while most of them were over 60 years old,” it said.

PMA Secretary General Dr Qaiser Sajjad alleged that the safety of doctors was being neglected by the authorities and even the doctors had neglected their own safety.

“Unfortunately, due to this negligence, so far 216 doctors have died due to code 19, 75 in Punjab and Sindh, 56 in KP, six in Balochistan, three in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and three in Gilgit-Baltistan,” he said. One, in addition, 31 paramedics have died from the coronavirus.

“In these circumstances, we suggest that doctors should always adopt SOPs to ensure their safety. No one should think that vaccination would reduce the need to follow SOPs,” he added.
