Pakistan vs West Indies: Babar announces 19-player squad for test series
Pakistan on Wednesday announced a 19-player test squad for two-match test series against West Indies, which will commence from August 12 at Sabina Park.
Pakistan skipper Babar Azam confirmed the playing members during his pre-test press conference. “It has been agreed to release Haris Rauf and Mohammad Nawaz so that they can return to Pakistan and spend quality time with their families.
“This will also give them a few extra days to relax, regroup and recharge for the commitment ahead, which commences with the series against Afghanistan,” he said.
Baber said that the last 12 months had been tough and the coming matches will be equally challenging and demanding.
He further added that it was decided to include new players without compromising the team’s performance and results.
“Jamaican pitches provide a good challenge to the batters hence our batters need to [join the] party and display their true potential and caliber in the two Tests. They have performed well this year and it is now time to take that confidence into the Test series and put up an improved and enhanced performance,” he said.
In the last 17 test matches played between the two teams, Pakistan has a lead of 6-5 against the West Indies.
However, West Indies maintains the lead of 4-1 in the eight series played in the West Indies.
In the last clash between the two teams in 2016-17, Pakistan claimed their first-ever test series victory by 2-1.
