PCB chiesf Ehsan to discuss important matters with PM Imran

Prime Minister Imran Khan will meet Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani in the coming days. During this meeting, the PM will make important decisions regarding the appointment of the new chairman.

The upcoming meeting could be the last one for Mani, according to the media. As the sources claim that the PCB chairman will make one last effort to secure his position and make PM Imran realize his place at the helm of affairs.

“The meeting is expected within the next two working days and is aimed at sharing with the PM the challenges confronting the PCB and Mani’s role in it. Nothing has been finalized as yet when it comes to naming the two PCB patron’s appointed members of the Governing Board from whom the new PCB Chairman will be appointed,” a highly placed cricket official told the media.

The sources further added that chances for Mani to retain his position seems narrow, but said that nothing can be said at the moment.

“During the meeting between the prime minister and Mani. all issues will be discussed and the decision on the new Governing Board members will be taken. If Mani succeeds in convincing the PM of his utility, he may get a chance. Ultimately, we may see Mani saying that he was not willing to seek another term in office,” the source added.

Rameez Raja could be the new chairman

Meanwhile, former Pakistan captain Rameez Raja emerges as the strong candidate for the next PCB chairman. The media said that the Raja’s name was suggested by former cricketer Majid Khan.

Previously, majid was most likely to be the new chairman, but he backed up Mani for the job.

Majid, former president of Islamabad cricket, did not accept the proposal for the position back then. And now, he gave the name of Raja. Even during his career, he was close to Raja.

It was due to Majid that Raja was seen leading the capital team in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy in the nineties.

Dr. Jawad Sajid is also being considered, but he may be offered a position on the Governing Board instead. There was talk a few weeks ago that Secretary Cabinet Sardar Ahmad Nawaz Sukhera was also being considered, but this turned out to be false.

Mani’s term as chairman of the PCB will come to an end on August 24, and the board will elect a new chairman by the first week of September. Election Commissioner Justice (retd) Azmat Saeed has already been selected to oversee the PCB Chairman elections.
