Android 12 is now in development, and the Android 12 Beta 4 (excluding Developer Previews) is now rolling out to Pixel smartphones. This is a big release, according to the Android Developers Blog, as it pushes Android 12 into the final phase of testing.

Platform Stability has been achieved in Android 12 Beta 4, which means that all app-facing surfaces and behaviors are now final in Android 12. As of Beta 4, you may issue compatibility updates with confidence, knowing that the platform will not change.

Because Android 12’s app behaviors will not change between now and the final public release of Android 12, developers should “start final compatibility testing for apps, SDKs, and libraries”. This means we’re getting closer to seeing Android 12 in its final form, which will be available on Google’s upcoming Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones.

Users who have signed up for the Google Pixel beta programme should be able to download the new update right now. Google Pixel phones dating back to the Google Pixel 3 are able to join. To do so, go to this website and check in with the Google account linked with the Pixel phone. Non-Pixel devices will also receive Beta 4 if they are enrolled in the beta.
