After the launch of Roshan Digital Account, Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to inaugurate the Roshan Apna Ghar scheme for overseas Pakistani, his office said on Friday.

In a series of tweets, the PM Office said that the initiative is being launched to make it ‘easier’ for overseas Pakistanis to purchase houses in Pakistan.

“The initiative is being launched as part of Roshan Digital Account with a view to counter difficulties faced by overseas due to host of manual procedures, requirement of physical presence of the buyer and frauds and forgeries,” said the PM Office.

The PM Office highlighted that, previously, “almost no financing” facilities were available for overseas Pakistanis to buy a house for their families in Pakistan.

“Now, Roshan Apna Ghar initiative will allow overseas Pakistanis to invest in Pakistan’s real estate sector or obtain financing from banks at very attractive rates,” read the tweet.

The PM office said that by digitally enabling the “process of lodging investment/financing request, loan approval, documentation and disbursement” the buyers will be able to purchase “properties or obtain finance digitally in Pakistan from anywhere in the world”.

The tweets by the PM office came after PTI Senator Faisal Javed shared the news on his Twitter account, earlier today.

“This is yet another exciting initiative by State Bank of Pakistan offering a digital and repatriable solution for non-resident Pakistanis real estate investment and mortgage financing needs,” said Senator Faisal.

The PTI senator, who is a close confidante of PM Imran Khan, shared that more than 200,000 Roshan Digital Accounts have been opened by overseas Pakistanis. He added that the total deposits in the accounts have crossed “$2 billion in less than a year” since the launch of the account in September of last year.
