RAWALPINDI: Punjab Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Raja Basharat assured businessmen that he will take up their concern regarding the closure of businesses for two days in a meeting with Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday.

“The issue of closing markets for two days a week will be taken up in a meeting with the Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Monday,” said Basharat, while addressing the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI). He also assured the body that he will raise the traders’ concerns with the CM.

The provincial minister told RCCI that businesses had suffered a lot during the coronavirus. However, he was of the view that the economic policies of Prime Minister Imran Khan have helped the government come out of a difficult time which has now allowed the business sectors to “stand on their feet”.

“The strategy of the Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkwa government is better than that of Sindh and Balochistan governments with regards to coronavirus,” said the minister.

Speaking about the plans of the provincial government for Rawalpindi, the minister said that the beautification of Murree Road was on the cards as it is a lifeline for the city.

“Ring Road is like a backbone for the city of Rawalpindi. It will be launched during this financial year,” shared the minister.

Bashrat also said that development authorities across Punjab will have to adopt LDA laws. He also shared that a commission has been set up to bring all illegal societies under the purview of the law.

Earlier, Chamber President Nasir Mirza thanked the minister for his time and allowing them to express their concerns regarding the two-day closure of businesses. He suggested that the markets should be closed on Friday and Saturday instead of Saturday and Sunday.

While group leader Sohail Altaf urged the government to show compassion with the business community.
