The US warns citizens to avoid traveling to Kabul airport
The US embassy in Kabul has advised its residents against traveling to the Kabul airport, quoting “potential security threats”.
A disordered rush of people expecting to flee the Taliban takeover of the country a week ago was seen at the Hamid Karzai International Airport.
“We are advising US citizens to avoid traveling to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time unless you receive individual instructions from a US government representative,” the alert from the US embassy in Kabul said.
Whereas the warning mentioned no detail on the danger but a White House official later said assistants had informed President Joe Biden on local “counterterrorism operations”, which also include against Daesh.
“This morning, the president met with his national security team… They discussed the security situation in Afghanistan and counter-terrorism operations, including ISIS-K,” the official said.
On the contrary, up to 15,000 Americans need to be expatriates from Afghanistan, according to Biden, who says the management wants to get at least 50,000 Afghan associates and their family members out of the country.
The military was immediately trying to ample the departure from Kabul by the end of August, stated Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.
“We’ve been very honest about the fact that we know that we’re fighting against both time and space,” he said.
Further adding, “that’s the race we’re in right now.”
17,000 people had been taken out since the action began on August 14, with many have flown first to Qatar or Kuwait, claimed US Major General Hank Taylor.
Whereas, six military C-17 planes and 32 charter flights had left Kabul airport in the past 24 hours with 3,800 people aboard, which shows a piercing debility from the previous day.
On the contrary, Biden has assured to help any American in Afghanistan pursuing to vacate, saying: “Any American who wants to come home, we will get you home.”
Furthermore, he has also acknowledged that the occurrence of thousands of US soldiers at the airport does not give assurance for safe passage through Kabul.
