World failed to make Pakistan a scapegoat for Afghanistan Crisis: Sheikh Rashid

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad assured on Wednesday that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan will not be allowed to perpetrate terrorism in Pakistan.

Talking to newsmen, he said the Afghan Taliban have assured that they will not allow their land to be used against any other countries, including Pakistan.

“Pakistan will also not allow its land to be used against Afghanistan,” he added.

Rashid said: “We desire peace, tranquility and stability in Afghanistan, as it is also important for Pakistan.”

The interior minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan will very soon issue a detailed statement regarding the Afghan situation.

The interior ministry is working round-the-clock to facilitate the evacuation from Afghanistan, he said, adding that a comprehensive security system is being introduced under which all the provincial capitals will be linked with Islamabad.

In a similar press conference a day ago, the interior minister had said that the region has become significantly important due to the evolving situation in Afghanistan. He said long-lasting peace in Afghanistan was important for the region, as well as for the world.

Pakistan would continue playing its role in maintaining peace in Afghanistan for a stable government, as peace in Afghanistan was a must for peace in the entire region, including Pakistan, he added.

Rashid said that besides issuing visas to members of the Afghan cricket team, the government had issued immigration to 1,277 foreigners, including Afghanis, while 500 people were waiting for transit.

He said 874 people were also allowed to enter Pakistan via the Torkham border, while Chaman and Torkham borders were opened for trade.

So far, no such decision was made about Afghan refugees, while only those were being facilitated who were entering Pakistan legally.
