New Zealand has reported the first death and it believes that the death is linked to Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine.

The woman’s death was “probably” caused by myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, according to an independent vaccine safety monitoring board.

Other medical conditions could also have “influenced the outcome following vaccination,” according to the report.

Myocarditis is a “very rare” adverse effect, according to European regulators, and the vaccine’s advantages outweigh the dangers.

The cause of death has yet to be determined by the authorities.

The Covid-19 Vaccine Independent Safety Monitoring Board concluded that the myocarditis was  “probably due to vaccination”.

The woman’s death is being probed, and a coroner will make a decision soon. Officials haven’t revealed any other information, such as the age of woman.

In the United Kingdom, around 195 cases of myocarditis have been reported among those who received the Pfizer vaccination,  at a rate of around five cases per million.  The majority of those cases resulted in minor symptoms.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended people to continue to get vaccinated because they assist to prevent people from becoming seriously sick from Covid-19.

“This is the first case in New Zealand where a death in the days following vaccination has been linked to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. While the Centre for Adverse Reactions Monitoring has received other reports of deaths in someone recently vaccinated, none are considered related to vaccination,” it said in a statement.
