England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the 15-strong squad on September 9 for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup and two-match T20I series against Pakistan.

England bowler Tymal Mills has also been included in the squad. He played his last T20I in 2018, as a part of a World XI against West Indies.

Chris Silverwood, the England men’s head coach, said that Mills has shown improved performance in the T20 Blast and the Hundred this season, due to which he has been considered in the squad.

“Tymal Mills deserves his inclusion and has demonstrated over the past couple of years, but particularly this summer that he has all skills to succeed at this level,” said Silverwood.

“His exceptional pace is a standout, and the way he has spearheaded Sussex and Southern Brave’s respective attacks in the short-form game has shown that he relishes the pressures of the big stage. He will add variety to our bowling unit, and we can’t wait to see him play in a major international tournament.”

Mills will play in place of Jofra Archer who has been sidelined for a year due to his elbow injury.

However, the biggest loss for England will be not having Ben Stokes on their sides. he has been away from cricket for a while now to focus on his mental wellbeing.

Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali will have an advantage on the spin-friendly pitches in the UAE. These bowlers will be supported by all-rounder Liam Livingstone.

Chris Jordan and Mark Wood will be joined by left-arm pacers Sam Curran and David Wiley.

England, the runner-up of the 2016 men’s T20 World Cup, will hope to be the top this time. They will start their journey against defending champions West Indies on October 23.

“We are excited about the prospect of challenging to win the ICC T20 World Cup,” said Silverwood. “I believe we have selected a squad that covers all bases and has the depth to be successful in what is expected to be a very competitive tournament featuring the best players in the world.”
