KARACHI: The headline or food inflation based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has increased 8.4 per cent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in August 2021, compared with an increase of 8.4 per cent in the previous month and 8.2 per cent in August 2020, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased 0.6 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 1.3 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 0.6 per cent in August 2020.

The CPI inflation in urban areas increased 8.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis in August 2021, compared with an increase of 8.7 per cent in the previous month and 7.1 per cent in August 2020.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased 0.5 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 1.29 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 0.8 per cent in August 2020.

The CPI inflation in rural areas increased 8.4 per cent on a year-on-year basis in August 2021, compared with an increase of 8 per cent in the previous month and 9.9 per cent in August 2020.

On a month-on-month basis, it increased 0.7 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 1.4 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 0.4 per cent in August 2020.

The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) inflation on YoY increased 15.9 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 16.2 per cent in July 2021 and an increase of 11.7 per cent in August 2020.

On a MoM basis, it increased 0.7 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 1.8 per cent in July 2021 and an increase of 0.9 per cent in August 2020.

The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on a YoY basis increased 17.1 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 17.3 per cent in July 2021 and an increase of 3.3 per cent in August 2020.

The WPI inflation on a MoM basis increased 1.2 per cent in August 2021, compared with an increase of 2.3 per cent in July and an increase of 1.3 per cent in the corresponding month of 2020.
