Netizens praised the elephant for being intelligent enough to know how much water to draw, and several dubbed him a “genius,” while others chastised people for wasting water.

In the interest of raising awareness about water conservation, the Ministry of Jal Shakti shared a video of an elephant drawing water from a tubewell on Twitter.

The video, which has gone viral on the internet, shows an elephant pumping water from a tubewell plainly intended for human consumption. While photographs and videos of people wasting natural resources are frequently shared on social media, the camera showed the elephant stopping as soon as it had drawn enough water for itself.

The ministry shared the video, writing, “Then why do we humans waste this precious gem?” The ministry also asked people to take a cue from the elephant and begin conserving water.

In 2019, the government established the Jal Shakti Ministry by combining the Ministries of Water Resources and Drinking Water. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Jal Shakti, had also launched a water conservation program called “Sanchay Jal, Behtar Kal.”

Indian Forest Services officer Ramesh Pandey also tweeted, “Water and animals both are precious, to be conserved for own survival.”
