PIAF-Founders Alliance set to grab LCCI polls unopposed
LAHORE: Following the opposition’s boycott and completion of scrutiny of nomination papers, PIAF-Founders Alliance is set to grab all seats without a contest in the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) elections for the year 2021/22.
Winning the election unopposed will be a rare feast achieved by the ruling panel after around three decades.
A three-member Election Commission, comprising Sohail Lashari, Kashif Younas Meher and Shahzad Azam Khan on Friday scrutinised the nomination papers of 18 candidates with the help of LCCI secretary general Shahid Khalil and declared all these complete and correct.
As many as nine candidates filed nomination papers for eight seats of the corporate class, while eight candidates submitted papers for seven slots of the associate class. Only one nomination paper was filed for one reserved woman seat.
Mian Jabbar Khalid, Khalid Mehmood, Mian Rehman Aziz Chan, Rizwan Haider, Ahmed Elahi, Muhammad Riaz ul Hassan, Muhammad Momin Ali Malik, Tariq Mehboob and Moazzam Rasheed filed nominations for the corporate class.
Mian Nauman Kabir, Muhammad Yousaf Shah, Chaudhry Wajid Ali, Haris Ateeq, Malik Muhammad Nadeem, Muhammad Usman, Mian Attiq-ur-Rehman and Darshan Sign have filed nomination papers for associate class, while Shamim Akhter has submitted her nomination papers for the reserved seat for woman.
As per the PIAF-Founders Alliance leadership, one contender each for corporate and associate class will withdraw their nomination papers as soon as the final lists of eligible candidates is displayed after disposal of objections, if any.
The last date for the withdrawal of nomination papers is September 18. Two candidates will withdraw nomination papers on the given date and the move will lead to unopposed elections of the LCCI body after 29 years, senior member PIAF and former LCCI senior vice president Amjad Ali Jawa said, while talking to the BOL News.
PIAF has finalised Mian Nauman Kabir for the LCCI president slot, while Founders Group has yet to decide its candidates for the senior vice president and vice president offices.
As per the officials, the executive committee, comprising 32 members, including 15 each from the corporate and associate classes and two women entrepreneurs will elect three office-bearers, president, SVP and VP, who will assume offices on October 1 after the annual general meeting.
