LAHORE: The internal rift between Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is causing a lot of problems within the party and has turned it into a divided house, BOL News learnt on Thursday

Party insiders say fissures within the party have become clear after PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz statement on the party’s prime minister candidate.

Maryam had said that if PML-N nominates Shehbaz Sharif for the prime ministership then the party would support him clearly.

“Maryam Nawaz makes fun of PML-N President and former CM Shehbaz Sharif during party meetings and also gives weird looks and expressions to his son Hamza Shehbaz remarks during meetings,” a senior party leader shared.

Sources added that Maryam Nawaz Sharif has made up her mind and she can accept the defeat in next elections but cannot see the Nawaz Sharif political dynasty going into the hands of her uncle Shehbaz. They added that such a scenario is harmful for her as that would put Hamza Shehbaz as the heir apparent.

According to party insiders, Shehbaz had recently contacted his elder brother and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif once again. He had requested the former prime minister to ask him to make sure that Maryam keeps quite for some time and keep a low profile. They added that the PMl-N president had also asked for a free hand to run the party affairs.

On the other hand, leaders close to Nawaz Sharif say that theformer prime minister wants Maryam Nawaz to lead the PML-N. They added that he was reluctant to make an announcement as he believes that it would damage the party.

They added that it is quite obvious that PML-N supremo is on a mission of phasing out his younger brother.

“PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is also to be blamed for this internal rift as his diplomatic or dual policy of dealing with his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif and daughter Maryam Nawaz is damaging the party as he neither stops Shehbaz nor snubs Maryam Nawaz,” a senior party leader who is close to both camps of PML-N told BOL News.

He added that it is about time that Nawaz should decide whether the party’s narrative should focus on the “uncalled for bashing of state institutions” under the garb of sanctity of vote.

“Shehbaz believes that Maryam’s uncalled for bashing of state institutions has damaged the party and it must be stopped right now because if it continues then the party will get a decisive blow,” a senior party leader said.

The party leader believes that PML-N’s narrative was rejected by the masses in recent Azad Jammu and Kashmir poll and other by-elections.

“Some of the senior party leaders including Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Tanveer Hussain and others might refuse to contest elections on PML-N’s ticket in the next general elections if the party continues with the current narrative of bashing state institutions,” he claimed.
