Focus of former rulers remained fake accounts, money laundering: Farrukh Habib

ISLAMABAD: The successful strategy of Prime Minister Imran Khan and his economic team were bearing fruits, an official said.

In a tweet, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said that it was a good omen that the tax collection has crossed the target from the start of the financial year 2021/22.

The revenue of Rs434 billion was collected in August 2021, which was Rs85 billion more than the target of Rs349 billion, he said, adding that last year this amount was Rs300 billion in August.

In July-August 2021, the revenue of Rs850 billion was collected, whereas in July-August 2020, the amount was Rs603 billion.

In the first two months of the fiscal year 2021/22, tax collections has increased 41 per cent, he said, adding that during the Pakistan Muslim League-(PML-N) era, refunds were withheld, advance tax was collected and artificial data was released to hoodwink the masses.

However, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) regime released the refunds worth Rs364 billion in the last financial year, Habib said, adding that other measures taken by the PTI government included prevention of smuggling, which had also increased the tax collection.
