USDA counsellor visits UVAS, wants enhanced collaboration
LAHORE: The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Counsellor Christopher Rittgers called on University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) vice chancellor Dr Nasim Ahmed and discussed matters of mutual interests, a statement said.
Asmat Raza, senior agriculture specialist from the US Embassy in Islamabad accompanied him.
University of Education vice chancellor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha and representatives from Pakistan Dairy Association were also present on the occasion.
Christopher Rittgers showed interest in enhancing collaboration with UVAS, especially in the areas of dairy herd management, food safety and food security, animal nutrition, food processing, poultry and beef.
Asmat Raza appreciated the UVAS management for state-of-the-art facilities and measures taken for the development of the dairy sector.
Dr Nasim Ahmad highlighted research, development interventions and student strength along with the national and international collaborations.
Dr Masood Rabbani spoke about the dairy herd management and curriculum revision, adding that recently Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council has added bio-risk management and health courses in the veterinary curriculum.
UVAS had always been willing to collaborate with the USDA in the joint research projects for the development of the dairy sector, he added.
Later, the US agriculture counsellor visited different sections of the Veterinary Academy, Pet Centre and Quality Operation Laboratory.
