Who is Mullah Hassan Akhund?
The Taliban took complete control of Kabul, after the evacuation of U.S forces was announced by President Joe Biden.
Soon after the U.S forces evacuation was completed on 31 august 2021, the Taliban declared the formation of a government under Taliban rule.
The Taliban have finally announced Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund as the head of their government in Afghanistan.
Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, a lesser-known leader of the group, has been selected as the applicant between contrasting parties within the Taliban, reports by sources have claimed.
Here’s what the World knows about Hassan Akhund:
Akhund originally belongs to the Kandahar region of Afghanistan, where the Taliban had emerged in the 1990s.
According to the reports, He was one of the founding members of the revolution group.
He is alleged more of a religious leader than a military leader and is measured to be close to the Taliban’s spiritual and supreme leader Sheikh Hibatullah Akhundzada.
Akhund has held the position of the head of the Taliban’s top decision-making body, “Rehbari Shura” or the leadership council, for almost 20 years.
A Taliban leader stated “He worked for 20 years as head of Rehbari Shura and earned himself a very good reputation. He is a religious leader rather than a military background and is known for his character and devotion.”
During the previous government tenure, Akhund had held numerous significant spots (from 1996 to 2001).
He was made the Foreign Minister during the Taliban regime.
He also served as the Deputy Prime Minister under Mullah Mohammad Rabbani Akhund as the PM.
