ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed assured the country on Monday that he wishes to reach an agreement with the outlawed Tehreek e Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

Admitting that the TLP was the third largest party of Punjab, the interior minister said he wanted that the promises made during negotiations with them are fulfilled.

“The government would protect the promises it has made. Upon insistence of TLP chief Saad Rizvi, I am heading the negotiating team,” he said.

Earlier, he had announced that the government had released 350 TLP workers and they were waiting for the supporters to open the Muridke Road, where they had staged a sit-in.

On the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), Rashid said that the opposition leaders were not receiving any response from the people.

“I could not see inflation-affected people in their rally. I could only see their party members,” he added.

Talking about Pakistan’s thumping victory against India in the World Cup T20 opening match, he said Pakistan could not see a bigger victory in 74 years as this.

“My world cup ended yesterday. I have no interest in the next matches now,” he said adding that if it was possible for him he would have given public holiday for the victory.

He did not shy away from rebuking New Zealand for abandoning Pakistan tour. He said the state provided them as much security  as their country’s army would not be.
