ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the international community to play its role in putting pressure on India to stop grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

In a message on the occasion of Kashmir Black Day, the premier said that the world should help secure the right of Kashmiris to determine their future according to United Nations (UN) Security Council resolutions.

“We stand united in support of the inalienable right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people.”

Pakistanis and millions of Kashmiris are observing ‘Black Day’ today to condemn the illegal occupation of IIOJK.

On this day in 1947, the sufferings of the Kashmiri people started when Indian troops landed in the occupied valley, which increased manifold on August 5, 2019, after New Delhi suspended the special status of IIOJK by revoking the Articles 370 and 35-A of the Indian Constitution.

October 27 was a day to remember the innumerable sacrifices given by Kashmiris while resisting the forced occupation of India, added the PM in his message.

PM Imran said that despite the oppression and cruelty of Indian occupation forces for the last seven decades, the Kashmiris were determined to get freedom from India.

“We salute the courage and determination of Kashmiris, including women and children. Kashmiris are a source of inspiration for the freedom-loving people of the world.”

The longstanding dispute of IIOJK was on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council since 1948, he added.

The prime minister stressed that in today’s India, the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was prevalent, and in its extremist ideology, there was no place for Muslims and other minorities.

He said that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was using oppressive methods to suppress the voice of Kashmiris and deny them the right to self-determination.

Fake encounters, rape and severe violations of human rights and extrajudicial killings were the unspeakable crimes against the Kashmiris, added the premier.

The prime minister recalled that in the last two years, Pakistan strongly opposed the illegal measures of India and openly supported the rights of oppressed Kashmiris.

Pakistan raised the Kashmir issue at all the forums including the UN, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and during the bilateral meetings with the world leaders.

Today, the premier continued, the UN and all international organizations increased their condemnation of Indian measures regarding Kashmir.

“But this is not enough as a dossier released by Pakistan last month providing irrefutable evidence of inhuman behaviour of India should be exposed before the world.”

President Dr Arif Alvi, in his message, also reiterated that a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute, under the relevant UN Security Council resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people was the only way to ensure peace in the region.
