Brazilian footballer Neymar Jr announced that the next year’s FIFA World Cup could be his career’s last tournament.

Neymar has been part of the Brazil national football team for the past 11 years and has represented his country in more than 100 matches.

He is currently the second-highest scorer with 69 goals for Brazil after the highest scorer Pele, who has scored 97 goals for the national team.

Neymar has represented Brazil in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

“I think it’s my last World Cup,” the 29-year-old said in a new documentary, Neymar Jr and The Line Of Kings, produced by DAZN. “I see it as my last because I don’t know if I have the strength of mind to deal with football anymore.

“So I’ll do anything to turn up well, do everything to win with my country, to realize my greatest dream since I was little. And I hope I can do it.”

Brazil is currently on the top spot of South America’s qualifying group for the World Cup next year with 28 points in 10 games.

Neymar scored his 12th goal against Peru, taking his goals tally to 69. That helped Brazil secure its place in the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The Seleção has won the World Cup on five prior occasions, the most recent is 2002, but has struggled in recent editions.

Brazil lost 7-1 to Germany in the semi-finals of the 2014 tournament, with Neymar missing the game due to an injury, while the team withdrew the championship in the quarterfinals of the 2018 tournament after a 2-1 defeat to Belgium.
