PSX officials, KP minister discuss investment prospects
KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) organised a roundtable meeting with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Minister for Finance and Health Taimur Khan Jhagra and business leaders of Karachi, a statement said.
The meeting followed soon after a gong ceremony was held at the PSX Trading Hall on October 6, 2021, to mark the inauguration of the PSX regional office in KP.
The meeting was convened to bring industry leaders, leading businesspersons and market participants together with the senior representatives of the KP government so as to create a network and discuss the prospects of investment, expanding industry, logistics, trade and business in the north-western province and the far-flung north-western parts of the country.
Queries, suggestions, and points made by the industry leaders and businesspersons were addressed by the KP minister and the KP Board of Investment CEO, among others.
Welcoming the guests at the gathering, PSX managing director Farrukh Khan, said: “I welcome you all and thank you for taking the time out from your busy schedules to participate in this important meeting where the honourable Minister for Finance, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Taimur Jhagra and his team are here with us to meet with leading industrialists, business persons and market participants for expanding business opportunities in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.”
“The fact that we have such a senior team from the Pakhtunkhwa government coming to Karachi and meeting investors and business groups shows their seriousness and focus on the private sector as the engine of growth. As the third largest province of Pakistan, contributing 10 per cent to Pakistan’s GDP and 20 per cent to the country’s mining output, Pakhtunkhwa has a diverse economy, ranging from forestry to agriculture to large-scale manufacturing and tourism, and is a thriving part of Pakistan, providing excellent opportunities for investors and businesses,” he added.
Jhagra said: “With the recent developments taking place and incentives given by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government, the province provides an attractive avenue for investment and initiating or expanding trading, business, or industrial activities. I invite all the stakeholders present here to come to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa to have a firsthand on-ground look at the possibilities and opportunities for progress there and take part in the growth story of the economy of Pakhtunkhwa.”
In her closing remarks, the head of the KP PSX Initiative Maleeha Bangash thanked all the participants of the meeting for presenting their useful points for discussion with the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa minister of finance and his team.
She said this was a fantastic opportunity to explore the business opportunities in KP and expressed the hope that this meeting would mark the commencement of partnerships that will show true results and material implementation of the decisions taken in the meeting into concrete activity on the ground.
