KARACHI: The Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PHMA) has elected Shahzad Azam Khan, Abdul Rehman and Kashif Ahmed Aslam Zia unopposed as the central chairman, senior vice chairman and vice chairman, respectively, for the term of 2021/22, a statement said.

The election results were announced in the annual general meeting held on Thursday.

Abdul Rehman will also head the committee (Southern Zone) as its chairman, while Abdul Kadir Bilwani will serve as the zonal senior vice chairman and Faisal Arshad Shaikh as the zonal vice chairman.

The PHMA Executive Committee members elected unopposed from the Southern Zone included Abdul Rehman; Mohammad Babar Khan; Saqib Bilwani; Fawad Usman; Faisal Arshad Sheikh; Ali Murtaza Panju; and Irfan Zakaria Bawany.

The Executive Committee members from the Southern Zone, who will continue their second term, included Mohammad Jawed Bilwani; Tariq Munir; Abdul Jabbar Gajiani; Bashir A Ghaffar; Akhtar Memon; Umair Ghulam Mohammad and Abdul Kadir Bilwani.

Zia will also head the committee (Northern Zone) as its chairman and Tariq Mahmood Bhatti as the zonal vice chairman.

From the Northern Zone, the elected Executive Committee members included Kashif Ahmed Aslam Zia; Adil Butt; Syed Nahid Abbas; Naseer Ahmad Butt; Sheikh Hammad Kapoor; Moazzam Javaid; and Tariq Mahmood Bhatti.

The Executive Committee members, who will continue their second term are Shahzad Saleem Asghar; Shahzad Azam Khan; Farrukh Iqbal; Muhammad Zubair; Hafiz Rashid Mahmood; Muhammad Idrees; and Muhammad Rafi Sony.

The elected office-bearers and the Executive Committee members were supported by the Export Development Group (EDG) headed by Muhammad Jawed Bilwani, who is also the patron-in-chief of PHMA.

Bilwani expressed the confidence that the new elected representatives will make all-out efforts to cooperate in resolving the issues and problems being faced by the industry and boost exports.

Outgoing central chairman Riaz Ahmed said that sincere efforts were made during his tenure to achieve the desired objectives of the association in enhancing exports, safeguarding genuine rights of the members, and resolving the issues being confronted by the industry.

Shahzad Azam Khan said that it was an honour for him to assume the office of the PHMA chairman for the year 2021/22.

He paid tributes to the outgoing chairman, saying the outgoing body has been actively promoting the interests of the value-added textile industry throughout the year.

Khan vowed to continue with his efforts for the promotion and protection of the value-added textile industry.

Former chairmen, office-bearers, Executive Committee members and general body members eulogised the services and efforts made by the outgoing chairman and his team and felicitated the newly-elected members.

They reposed confidence in the new PHMA officers and anticipated that they will leave no stone unturned to achieve the desired objectives of the association.
