When Myrta Gage, 84, was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, she opted to do what she loved most: fly a plane.

Gage, who used to be a pilot, found herself in a familiar situation when she walked inside a plane’s cockpit. Earl, her son, told the media that his mother has been struggling with daily duties, so the family decided to assist her to create and completing a bucket list.

Gage’s dream of flying became a reality after Earl contacted a pilot named Cody Mattiello, who agreed to fly the two over Lake Winnipesaukee and Mount Kearsarge, according to the news website. In order to assist a fellow pilot, Mattiello handed up control of the plane to Gage while in the air, according to the report.

Several videos and photos of Gage were uploaded on Mattiello’s Facebook page and quickly went viral. “I was asked a few days ago to help fulfill this amazing lady’s final wishes (sic) to fly a plane again. She was a pilot in her youth and having Parkinson’s disease and being in her 90’s insurance requirements would not allow her to use a flight school.”

According to the post, “Her son contacted me to help and I was more than happy to help a fellow aviator. Beautiful weather to fly down Lake Winnipesaukee and around Mount Kearsarge to see the fall colors. As a New Hampshire-born pilot, I feel lucky to be able to share my love of aviation and be a part of making memories like this for others.”

Many viewers were left emotional after seeing the video and complimented the woman’s bravery in resuming her flight. “Once a pilot, always a pilot,” one person said, while another said, “Despite her illness, she looked so confident and self-assured in her flying.”
