Commissioner Karachi vows to continue efforts to eliminate polio from city

KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Muhammad Iqbal Memon on Friday assured a delegation of the Polio Oversight Board that the city administration would continue its efforts to eliminate the poliovirus from the city.

The delegation appreciated the efforts being made by the city administration and all the deputy commissioners when they called on the city officials.

“The work done by the city administration is commendable and our visit to this office is a token of appreciation to the administration,” said the delegation. They hoped that together with the city administration they can yield better outcomes and conduct better planning for a polio-free future.

The meeting also discussed the ideas to cover the missed children and those who have been deprived of the vaccine on the parents’ insistence.

The thirteen-member delegation of the Polio Oversight Board was headed by the chair of the board Chris Elias, Dr John Vertefeuille, Peter MacDougall, Michael McGovern, Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari and Dr George Laryea-Adjei, Coordinator of National Emergency Operation Centre Shehzad Baig, Additional Commissioner Karachi Jawwad Muzaffar and all deputy commissioners.
