Double taxation, high cost of doing business big challenges: LCCI

LAHORE: Double taxation, high cost of doing business and the lack of infrastructure in the market were big challenges, an official said.

Talking to a delegation of the Textile Traders Association of Pakistan, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Mian Nauman Kabir said that the resolution of these issues is in the interests of both the government and the business community.

Adnan Sehgal was leading the delegation that apprised the LCCI office-bearers about the problems being faced by the textile traders.

Kabir said that the government should devise policies conducive for the business environment and address genuine issues of traders.

He called for getting rid of the cumbersome taxation system that was hampering trade and economic activities. The LCCI chief welcomed the government decision to withdraw the increase in property tax.

Such initiatives were needed to ensure a business-friendly atmosphere in the country. Being the engine of growth, the private sector has the potential to supplement the government efforts aimed at economic revival of the country, he added.

Kabir said that a help desk for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) would be established at the LCCI soon.
