ISLAMABAD: Veteran journalist Muhammed Ziauddin passed away at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness at his house in Islamabad on Monday.
Ziauddin had been associated with Pakistan’s leading publications including Dawn and The Express Tribune.
His funeral prayers would be held after Asr in Media Town, Rawalpindi.
In an interview with a private channel earlier this year, Ziauddin had shared journey of becoming a journalist despite holding a degree in pharmacy.
He had said those days the only job which was available for him was of a medical sales representative because the pharmaceutical industry was still growing but within a year he got bored of his job.
“It did not suit my personality perhaps,” he had said.

Condolences
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said the demise of Muhammad Ziauddin had marked the end of an era of impartial and responsible journalism in Pakistan.
In a tweet, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of renowned journalist Ziauddin.
He said Ziauddin was one of the most capable and fiercely independent journalists.

“Ziauddin was no commoner. He was a wise man and integrity and boldness were added to his personality,” he maintained.
The minister prayed: “May Allah Almighty rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.”
In a statement, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib also expressed grief over the death of Ziauddin.
He said Ziauddin had played a key role in independent journalism in Pakistan.
The minister of state prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and courage for the bereaved family to bear this loss.
