Fawad urges youth to learn from modern agriculture techniques of other countries

RAWALPINDI: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry on Monday urged the youth to learn from the modern agriculture techniques of other countries to uplift this important sector of the economy.

“We have to shift from traditional to modern farming to exploit the country’s true agriculture potential,” stressed the minister while addressing an event at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University in Rawalpindi.

Chaudhry noted that Pakistan could be a great source of agriculture exports as regions such as the Gulf were open for us.

The information minister said that the vice-chancellors of universities should set a target as to how they could boost the economy.

He also emphasized the need for creating close linkages between the universities and private enterprises.

Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government has set the modernization of the agricultural sector and prosperity of farmers among its top priorities.

In September this year, while addressing a meeting in connection with the improvement of the agriculture sector in Islamabad, the premier had announced a comprehensive strategy for betterment in the agriculture sector, said Radio Pakistan.

The ‘Agri-Dashboard’ would be helpful for timely decision making in this regard, the premier had told the participants.

The prime minister had said that the agricultural transformation plan would be the first step towards food self-sufficiency.

The meeting was also apprised of the progress in the functions of Dashboard and Agricultural Transformation Plan of the Food Security.
