Islamabad to get ‘most empowered’ local govt in Pakistan’s history, claims Asad Umar

Federal Minister Asad Umar announced on Wednesday that Islamabad is set to get the “most empowered” local government in the country’s history.

“Cabinet approved the amended Islamabad local government law. This law will create the most empowered local government in Pakistan’s history,” tweeted Umar.

The minister said that “for the first time” in the country’s history there will be a law that “fully” meets the requirements of Article 140-A of “empowered local governments”.

President Arif Alvi had signed the law, earlier today, his office had announced after Asad’s tweet on the matter.

“President Dr Arif Alvi has issued Islamabad Local Government Ordinance 2021. The ordinance was issued under Article 89 of the Constitution,” said the president’s office.
