The road leading to the Nasla Tower (Shahra-e-Quaideen) was cordoned off before the planned police action. The police was able to disperse the crowd with tear gas shelling.

Jamaat e Islami Karachi chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman also reached the site with his aide and joined the protest with the residents and ABAD to register their protest against the demolition of Nasla tower.

Though rescue services said that no one was injured during the protest, the members of Jamaat Islami claimed that at least four of their activists sustained minor injuries during the protest.

ABAD on strike

Meanwhile, ABAD Chairperson Mohsin Shaikhani has announced to halt the construction work all across the metropolis in reaction to the Supreme Court’s verdict.

“The building is being demolished despite prior approval from the relevant institutions however no one is making the concerned officials accountable for giving the approval.”

He said that the people of Karachi are being discriminated and if this precedent continues he fears that the people will retort to illegal measures.

Earlier, the Supreme Court directed Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon to complete the demolition work of Nasla Tower in one week even if it requires help of as many as 400 labourers.
