ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday directed Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari and Secretary Interior to appear in person in the missing journalist and blogger – Mudassar Naro case.

Naro, a journalist from Lahore went missing in August 2018.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, during the hearing, expressed his reservations over the performance of additional attorney general for not complying with the court’s instruction of setting a meeting between the family of Naro and Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The chief justice remarked that the reaction of the state would have been different if a person belonging to the elite class went missing. This court had only given orders to arrange meetings of victim family with the federal cabinet and premier. A citizen’s disappearance is a serious crime, he said.

The court directed Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari and Secretary Interior to appear in person and adjourned the hearing till December 1.
